Pioneers Roll to Victory over Delhi

The Alfred State men's basketball team led throughout as they defeated SUNY Delhi 83-66 on Saturday afternoon. In the victory eight different Pioneers scored at least six points. 

The blue & gold raced out to a 21 to 5 lead in the first 11 minutes of the game and led by 20, 38-18, at the half. They expanded the lead to as many as 33, 57-24, with 13 minutes left in the game. The Broncos (15-13) heated up late but could never get within striking distance.

Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) was the only Pioneer in double figures finishing with 12 points and seven boards. Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte) finished with nine points and seven boards, Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) had eight points, seven rebounds, and five assists, and Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) and Marcus Rhett (Middletown) both finished with eight each. Robbie Adams (Jasper Troupsburg) and Ben Deming (Waterloo) both had six.

The Pioneers shot 46.4% from the field and held a 57 to 37 advantage on the glass (16 to 11 on the offensive boards).

Carlos Ithier connected on five 3-pointers and led Delhi with 17 points while Jordan Fragale finished with 13. Jake Slobe also finished in double figures with 11. The Broncos shot 23.3% in the 1st half of the game and shot only 31% for the game.

The Pioneers will look to continue their solid play tomorrow as they host SUNY Canton at 3 p.m.
