Pioneers Win 15th on the Season

The Alfred State men's basketball team got the offense going in the 2nd half and defeated SUNY Canton 53-39 to improve to 15-8 on the season. The Pioneers trailed 18-17 at halftime but shot 58.3% in the 2nd half to take control.

Neither team could get much going offensively in the 1st half as the Pioneers shot 18.2% and the Roos shot 25%. Canton went into half with the one point, 18-17, halftime lead but the Pioneers got things going early in the 2nd half. With the game tied at 22-22 with 17:24 remaining, the blue & gold scored the next eight points and never looked back. They built a lead as big as 14 with under four minutes left.

Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) was 8 for 13 from the field and led three Pioneers in double figures with 17 points and seven boards. Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte) hit three 3-pointers and finished with 14, and Tyler Elliott (Perry) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) passed out a game high eight assists.

The Pioneers shot 35.1% from the feild for the game and held a 47 to 40 advantage on the boards.

Canton (7-16) was led by Andrew Fitch's 12 points and eight boards. Jordan Stewart finished with six. The Roos shot 24.1% from the field for the game and were 2 for 27 from beyond the 3-point arc.

The Pioneers are home for the final time on Friday when they host Morrisville. Opening tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
