Yellowjackets Shoot Past Pioneers in Season Opener

Baldwin Wallace connected on 10 three-pointers in the 1st half as they shot past Alfred State 85-52 in the season opener for both teams. The Yellowjackets connected on 13 three-pointers in the contest.

The Yellowjackets started the game on a 10-3 run and behind their hot shooting built a 30-5 lead. The Pioneers battled back and trailed 46-26 at half. In the 2nd half, Baldwin Wallace didn't let the Pioneers back into the game as they outscored the Pioneers 39-26.

Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) led Alfred State with 13 points while Owen Spencer (Perry) added 10. Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) finished with nine points and 10 rebounds while Marcus Rhett (Middletown) came off the bench and finished with seven points.

Tyler Colombo and Zach Cebula led Baldwin Wallace with 12 points each. Cebula was 4 for 4 from beyond the three-point arc. Jay Battle finished with 11 and Drew Sova had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 11 different Yellowjackets scored in the contest.

Alfred State shot 31% from the field for the game and was just 2 for 19 from three while Baldwin Wallace shot 50% from the floor and was 13 for 31 from three. The Yellowjackets also held a 46 to 30 advantage on the board.

The Pioneers are right back on the court on Tuesday when they host Wells College. Opening tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. following the women's contest between the two schools.
