Late Run Lifts Bobcats by Pioneers

Josh Reding (Spencerport) hit a three-pointer with 3:19 remaining to tie the contest at 66-66 but Bryant & Stratton - Buffalo answered with a 18 to 7 run to end the game to earn a hard fought 84-73 victory over Alfred State in first day action of the Alfred Tournament. The Pioneers trailed by as many as 17 in the 2nd half but chipped away to tie the game.

Bryant & Stratton led for most of the game. They held a 35-30 lead at the half and then pushed the lead to 56-39 with 14:04 remaining before Alfred State turned it on and got right back into the game. With 9:09 remaining the Pioneers trailed 61-51 but went on a 15- 5 run over the next six minutes to tie the game. The run was sparked by the solid play of Kevin Goode (Rochester/Bishop Kearney), Owen Spencer (Perry), and Reding.

After a Bobcat timeout, Damone Brown hit a three-pointer and Tyrell Mitchell raced down the court for a lay-up. Marcus Rhett (Middletown) scored to cut it to 71-68 but Jeru Molson answered with another three. Goode connected on a three with 1:29 remaining but that would be as close as the Pioneers would get as Bryant & Stratton scored the next ten points.

Goode led Alfred State with 25 points (5 for 12 from three). Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) finished with a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards, Rhett had nine, Spencer finished with eight points and five assists.

Alfred State shot 46.3% from the field, 39.1% from three, and 60.9% from the foul line. They were outrebounded 42 to 34 and turned the ball over 20 times.

Mitchell led the Bobcats (3-0) with 23 points. Molson had 14, Brown 13, and Nicc Johnson 12. Jordan Street had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Bryant & Stratton shot 45.9% from the field, 39.1% from three, and 77.8% from the foul line.

The Pioneers head across the street to Alfred University tomorrow for day two of the Alfred Tournament. Alfred State takes on Bryant & Stratton - Rochester at 2 p.m. Alfred University defeated B&S-Rochester 90-70 in the opening game of the tournament this evening.
