Big 2nd Half Run Lifts Pioneers to Victory

The Alfred State men's basketball team used a 19-2 run in the 2nd half as they defeated Bryant & Stratton - Rochester 69-53 on day two of the Alfred Tournament. The victory evens up the Pioneers record at 2-2.

The Pioneers led 32-30 at the half but fell behind 39-37 with 16:10 remaining in the game. From that point, the Pioneers went on a 19-2 run over the next 6:30 to grab control of the game. The blue & gold finished the game on a 32-14 run.

Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) and Josh Reding (Spencerport) each finished the contest with 16 points. Lewis was 6 for 8 from the field and led all players with 18 boards. Reding was 4 for 10 from beyond the three-point arc as the Pioneers connected on eight 3-pointers. Owen Spencer (Perry) chipped in 12 points, Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) had eight points and six assists, and Marcus Rhett (Middletown) chipped in eight.

The blue & gold shot 37.1% from the field, 26.7% from three, and hit 9 of their 10 foul shots. The Pioneers held a 46 to 36 advantage on the boards and scored 32 points in the paint.

Dimitri Campbell had 14 points and eight boards while Will Green had 13 points and nine rebounds. Tim James also finished in double-digits with 11 points and seven rebounds. The Bobcats shot 30.2% from the field, 23.5% from three, and 58.3% from the foul line.

The Pioneers are back on the court on Tuesday when they travel to Allegany County foe Houghton for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
