Pioneers Chop Down Mighty Oaks to Earn 3rd Straight Victory

The Alfred State men's basketball team got contributions from eleven players as they won their third straight, 88-67, over SUNY ESF. The Pioneers end the first semester with a 6-4 overall record.

The Pioneers led from the early minutes of the games and never trailed after the first two minutes. The team used a 13-2 run in the 1st half to push their lead to double-digits and led by nine, 43-34, at the half. The Pioneers pushed their lead out to as many as 27 in the 2nd half.

Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) and Kevin Goode (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) led the team with 16 points each. Owen Spencer (Perry) finished with 11 points and seven assists, Brandon Gosley (Valley Stream) recorded career highs with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Reding (Spencerport) and Andrew Allman (Bronx Prep Charter) both had eight points while Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) finished with a season high 11 assists to go allong with five steals and four points.

The Pioneers scored 48 points in the paint and outscored the Mighty Oaks bench 43 to 4. The blue & gold also held a 42 to 29 advantage on the boards and forced SUNY ESF into 26 turnovers.

Cole Paradies was 6 for 10 from three and led the Mighty Oaks with 22 points. Henry Pflaumer finished with 15 while Cole Hartman had 13.

Alfred State shot 49.3% (35 for 71) from the field, 28% (7 for 25) from three, and 57.9% (11 for 19) from the foul line while ESF shot 41.7% (20 for 48) from the field, 42.3% (11 for 26) from three, and 64% (16 for 25) from the line.

The blue & gold return to action on December 29th when they take on St. John Fisher on day one of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Tournament.
