Slow Start Costs Pioneers

Delhi started the game on a 17-0 run over the first 6:01 of the contest as they defeated Alfred State 77-68 on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers cut the lead to seven a pair of times in the 2nd half but couldn't get any closer.

The Broncos jumped out to the 17-0 lead and led by as many as 18 in the 1st half. They took a 42-29 lead into the break. Alfred State battled back in the 2nd half and trailed by seven twice, 58-51 and 60-53, midway through the half but could never get any closer.

Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) was 9 for 13 from the field and led the Pioneers with 23 points. He completed the double-double with 12 boards. Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) and Josh Reding (Spencerport) both connected on four 3-pointers and finished 14. Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) also finished in double-figures adding 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The blue & gold shot 36.1% from the field (26 for 72), 25% from three (8 for 32), and 88.9% from the line (8 for 9).

Payton Dean led Delhi (11-9) with 18 points and nine boards. William Knight finished with 14 and Norman Wilson chipped in 12. The Broncos shot 45.5% from the field (30 for 66), 37% from three (10 for 27), and 50% from the foul line (7 for 14).

The Pioneers begin a season ending six game homestand on Saturday when they host Albany Pharmacy. Opening tip-off from the Orvis Activities Center is slated for 1 p.m.
