Alfred State hit seven three-pointers in the 1st half as they overpowered the College of St Joseph Fighting Saints 90-65. The Pioneers completed the weekend sweep and improve to 11-10 on the season.
The Pioneers scored the first four points and never trailed in the contest. With just over eight minutes left in the half, Alfred State led 27-24. The team turned it on and grew their lead to as many as 11 and went into halftime with a 47-38 advantage. Owen Spencer (Perry) was 4 for 4 from three and led the team with 12 while Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) had 11 and Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) chipped in 10. The Pioneers finished the half 7 for 10 from three.
The blue & gold never let St. Joseph to get back in the game and grew the lead to as many as 26. Kevin Goode (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) and Jordan both had eight to led the way.
Jordan shot 9-for-22 from the field and led Alfred State with 18 points. Spencer finished the game with a double-double, totaling 17 points (5 for 7 from three) and 10 rebounds while Lewis contributed with a double-double as well, finishing with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Goode came off the bench and scored 11.
Mickalous Snowden led the Fighting Saints (5-18) with 19 points. Charles Isaac Jr. finished the game with 20 points and 5 rebounds. They shot 39.4% from the field (26 for 66), 27.3% from three (6 for 22), and 46.7% from the foul line (7 for 15).The blue & gold shot 48.1% from the field (33 for 77), 42.9% from three (9 for 21), and 43.8% from the line (7 for 16).
Alfred State looks to keep their winning streak alive on Wednesday when they host Pitt-Bradford. Opening tip-off from the Orvis Activities Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
