Twelve 3's Lift Pioneers Past Panthers

The Alfred State men's basketball team won their second straight as they connected on twelve 3-pointers in a 85-76 victory at Pitt Bradford on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers are now 3-3 overall on the year and 2-1 in AMCC play.

Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) connected on three 3-pointers in the 1st half and led the Pioneers with 12 points as Alfred State led 42-36 at the half. The Pioneers led by as many as 15 just under nine minutes into the game. Josh Reding (Spencerport) hit two 3-pointers and added 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Reding hit three more 3-pointers and was 9 for 9 from the foul line in the 2nd half as the Pioneers held off all Panther rallies the rest of way. Gentile hit two more from beyond the arc and added eight more points.

Reding finished the day 5 for 9 from three and 10 for 10 from the line as he had a game and career high 31 points. Reding was 5 for 12 from behind the arc and finished with 20. Jahmel Demery (Rochester/Eastridge) also finished in double figures with 12. Donte Jones (Brooklyn Collegiate) and Brandon Gosley (Valley Stream South) came off the bench and chipped in seven each. 

The blue & gold shot 38.1% (24-63) on the game, hit 12 of 29 3-point attempts (41.4%), and was 25 for 31 (20 for 25 in the 2nd half) from the foul line.

Nick Carmichael led the Panthers quartet that finished in double figures with 17 points. Deondre Terwilliger finished with 15, Justin Kusiappouh had a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards, and Alex Rodriguez chipped in 11 off the bench.

The Pioneers continue their road trip on Saturday when they travel to Penn State Altoona for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
