Mounties Shoot Past Pioneers

The Alfred State men's basketball returned to AMCC play for the first time in 2020 but were unable to overcome cold shooting in a 66-57 loss to Mt. Aloysius.

Mt. Aloysius led 29-26 at the half but was able to put the lead to double digits with a quick start to the 2nd half. They grew their lead to 43-30 with 13:15 left and never let the Pioneers rally closer than nine.

Josh Reding (Spencerport) led the Pioneers with 12 points while Markel Jenkins (Elmira) netted 11 points and grabbed nine boards. Brandon Gosley (Valley Stream South) led the team with 11 rebounds and added nine points in just 16 minutes of action.

Carlos Palacio led three Mounties in double figures with 21 points. He completed the double-double with 11 boards. Trent McErlane and Nate Christian both finished with 16. MAC connected on 8 of their 22 3-point attempts (36.4%) in the contest.

The Pioneers were held to 34.4% shooting from the floor in the contest. They were 2 for 15 from beyond the 3-point line and 11 for 16 from the foul line.

The blue & gold are in action again on Wednesday when they host La Roche at 6 p.m.
