Gentile Nets 26 but Pioneers Come up Short

Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) connected on five 3-pointers and led Alfred State with 26 points as the Pioneers played Mt. Aloysius on Saturday afternoon. For the second consecutive game, the blue & gold put together a late rally but couldn't come all the way back in 75-71 loss to the Mounties.

Alfred State jumped out to a 21-9 lead in the first eight minutes of the game but MAC answered back to take a 29-28 lead. At the break the Mounties led 39-33. Mt. Aloysius built the lead to as many as 17, 62-45, before the Pioneers started their comeback. With just under 20 seconds left the blue & gold cut the lead to 74-71 but couldn't get any closer.

Gentile was 8 for 13 from the field, 5 for 8 from three, and 5 for 5 from the line as he scorers with 26. Andrew Allman (Bronx Prep Charter) came off the bench and finished with 10 while Josh Reding (Spencerport) and Donte Jones (Brooklyn/Collegiate) each had nine. Brandon Gosley (Valley Stream South) chipped in seven points and nine boards.

Nate Christian led the Mounties with 22 points while Azim Hutson and Trent McErlane each had 13. Mt. Aloysius connected on 11 of 27 three-point attempts.

The blue & gold are back in action on Wednesday when they host Penn State Behrend in a 6 p.m. contest.
