Three Finish in Double Figures

Three Pioneers finished in double figures as Alfred State battled Penn State Behrend on Wednesday evening. The Lions were used a late 1st half run to grab the lead and went on for the 76-58 win.

The game remained tight for most of the 1st half. The Lions pushed their lead out to as many as nine late in the half when they connected on five 3-pointers in the last 8:40. They built on their 36-27 advantage at the half but the Pioneers put together a run to close the deficit to 50-44 with just under 10 left. Penn State Behrend was able to withstand the rally and was able to add to their lead the rest of the way.

Josh Reding (Spencerport) led the team with 15 points and six assists while Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) finished with 12 points and nine boards. Brandon Gosley (Valley Stream South) also finished with 12.

Devin Pope scored 14 of his game high 24 points in the 2nd half to lead the Lions (14-6, 11-4 AMCC). Dorian Connors added 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists while Kenny Fukon chipped in 11.

Alfred State shot 43.1% from the field while Behrend shot 58.8%. The Lions connected on nine 3-pointers compared to the Pioneers two. Alfred State was 6 for 7 from the foul line while Penn State Behrend was 7 for 15.

The Pioneers are home again on Saturday when they host Franciscan. Opening tip-off is at 2 p.m.
