Quartet of Lacrosse Players Named All-WNYAC

Four members of the Alfred State lacrosse team have been named All-WNYAC following the 2013 campaign.  Brandon Griffin (Corning East) and Mike Alessi (Liverpool) were named 1st team while Bradley Murdoch (Auburn) and Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) were 2nd team selections.

Griffin led the Pioneers with 43 points after scoring 23 goals and passing out 20 assists.  He scored a goal in 11 of the teams 12 games and registered a point in all 12.  He scored three or more goals in three games and registered nine points (7 goals and 2 assists) vs. Niagara CCC and eight points (4 goals and 4 assists) vs. Mohawk Valley CC.

Alessi started in all 12 games in net for the Pioneers.  He was in net for nearly 625 minutes and made 182 saves.  He had a goals against average of 12.58 on the year.  Alessi made 20 or more saves in four games and had 10 or more saves in 10 games.

Murdoch was key at the faceoff circle for Alfred this season.  He won 112 of 201 faceoffs on the year.  He added 13 goals and 11 assists on the year offensively.  Murdoch had points in 11 of the 12 games this year and had a season best five points (2 goals and 3 assists) and nine ground balls in a victory over Niagara.

Phalen led the blue & gold with 26 goals on the year and finished with 30 points.  He scored in 10 of the Pioneers 12 games and recorded points in 11.  He scored multiple goals in eight games and recorded three or more goals on four occasions.  His best performance of the year was a six-goal game in a win over Cayuga CC.

The Pioneers finished the 2013 season with a 4-8 overall mark and a 3-4 mark in Region III Division III Western division play.
