Pioneers Roll Past Thunderwolves

The Alfred State lacrosse team used a 9-0 run after falling behind early en route to a 14-5 victory over Niagara CCC.  The Pioneers had nine different players find the back of the net.

Niagara jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of game before the Pioneers got things moving.  Brian Stern (Jordan Elbridge), Nate Spoor (Penn Yan), and David Ford (Sewanhaka) scored in the 1st quarter to give the blue & gold a 3-2 lead after the 1st quarter.

Marc Hernandez (William Floyd), John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake), Ford, Dominic Arresta (Southhampton), and Andrew Delligatti (Fox Lane) scored in the 2nd to give the Pioneers a 8-2 lead at the break.

Delligati scored 1:20 into the 3rd to cap the 9-0 run before the Thunderwolves got back on the baord with 6:54 remaining in the quarter.  Michael Maranga (St. Edmond) and Matt Chatfield (Myrtle Beach, SC) capped the scoring the 3rd to make it 11-3.

The Thunderwolves scored the first two goals of the 4th before Maranga scored twice and Ford tallied his 3rd of the game to cap the scoring.

Delligatti led the Pioneers with five points (2 goals and 3 assists) while Ford (3 goals and 1 assist) and Spoor (1 goal and 3 assists) had four points.  Maranga also recorded a hat trick.

Mike Alessi (Liverpool) made four saves in the first three quarters while Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville-Manlius) made three saves in the 4th.

The Pioneers, who outshot Niagara 40 to 25, play their final home game of the season on Tuesday when they host Medaille.
