Canton Down Pioneers

SUNY Canton scored the first five goals and never looked back as they defeated Alfred State 12-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Roos improve to 11-5 on the year while the Pioneers are now 5-8.

Trenton Yule and Dante Coco both netted a pair of goals as Canton took a 5-0 lead. AJ Soto (Churchville) got the blue & gold on the board with a goal 4:36 into the 2nd quarter but the Pioneers would never get any closer. Canton led 7-1 at half and added to the lead with two goals to start the 3rd quarter. Joe Johnson (Churchville) scored his 28th of the season on the extra man with 5:06 remaining in the quarter. The Roos added three insurance goals in the 4th.

Yule finished with three goals and three assists while Coco finished with three goals and an assist for the Roos.

Soto finished with a goal and an assist while Chris Williams (Watertown/South Jefferson) led the team with eight ground balls.

Canton outshot the Pioneers 45 to 26. 

The Pioneers start the final week of the regular season on Wednesday when they host Houghton at 5 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
