Big 2nd Quarter Lifts Keuka in Season Opener

Keuka used a huge 2nd quarter as they defeated Alfred State 17-5 in the season opener for both teams. 

The Wolves got on the board first 2:30 into the game but AJ Soto (Churchville) tied it up with just over five minutes left in the quarter. Keuka scored two goals in the final 2:41 to hold a 3-1 advantage after 15 minutes. KC took full control of the game in the 2nd as they scored ten unanswered goals in the first 13 minutes. Tyler Baker (Rome Free) broke the streak with his first career goal with 1:23 left in the half.

Both teams scored a pair of goals in the 3rd. Joe Johnson (Churchville) and Baker scored for the Pioneers. In the 4th, the Wolves held a 2-1 advantage to close out the victory. Soto scored his second of the night to cap the scoring.

Soto and Baker both scored a pair for the Pioneers. Kasey Galina had four goals and two assists while Connor Cupp had three goals and four assists.

Matt Cobb (Churchville) made 20 saves in net for Alfred State. Keuka outshot Alfred State 58-24 in the contest.

The Pioneers open up the home portion of their season on Wednesday when they host Wells for a 5 p.m. contest.
