The Alfred State men's soccer team scored a goal in each half and Vinny Biancuzzo (Genesee Valley) and the defensive unit pitched a shutout as Pioneers defeated Delhi 2-0 in their season opener. It is the second straight season the blue & gold has won their season opener.
Ku Reh (Buffalo/Riverside) got the Pioneers on the board in the 21st minute when he headed in a crossing pass from Jake Vattimo (Geneseo). Kory Zimmer (Livonia) made it 2-0 in the 60th minute when he took a long free kick from Chris Balys (Holley) and slipped it into the net.
Delhi (1-1) held a 14 to 9 shot advantage. Both teams had five shots on goal. Biancuzzo stopped all five shots on net while his counterpart Marcos Andrino made three saves.
The Pioneers host Medaille on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium. Opening kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
