James Lang recorded a hat trick as Medaille improved to 2-0 with a 8-1 victory over Alfred State on a soggy Sunday afternoon. The Mavericks scored four of their goals on set pieces.

Medaille started off quickly with a pair of goals 1:32 apart. James Lang scored on a free kick that he placed off the crossbar and into the back of the net. Mitchell Ali then took a long pass from Pablo Ballesteros and capitalized on the breakaway. In the 22nd minute (21:04) Anthony Marafiota made it 3-0 with his first goal of the season.

Lachlan Wilkinson scored in the 53rd minute after getting a clearing pass from Marafiota. Lang scored another pretty goal on a free kick striking his shot off the near post and in 54:34 into the game. He completed the hat trick in the 62nd minute (61:12) on another free kick that went around the wall and off the keepers hand. Job Ayuba added another goal on a free kick with just under 20 minutes remaining. Jackson Hamilton capped the scoring for the Mavs when he scored in the final minute after getting a pass from Given Holy Gbode.

The Pioneers got on the board with less than six seconds left when Nathan Adamec (Lancaster) scored his first career goal on a free kick just outside the box.

The Mavericks held a 28-5 shot advantage in the game. Matthew Gabalski made one save in 70:56 in net to earn the victory.

The Pioneers are back in action next weekend when they head to Fredonia for a pair of games. They take on the hosts on Friday at 6 p.m. and then battle Buffalo State on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
