Pioneers Sizzle in Sunday Showdown with Beaver

The Alfred State men's soccer team scored five unanswered goals as they defeated Penn State Beaver on the sultry turf at Pioneer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Logan Ridgley netted the first goal of the game to give Beaver the lead 10:46 into the contest. Ridgley's direct kick from over 30 yards out found the top left corner. Just over seven minutes later, Scott Fingar (Penn Yan) tied it up with his first goal. Fingar's first shot was saved but he grabbed the rebound and fired it past the keeper.

5:43 into the 2nd half, the Pioneers took the lead for good when Brandon Holley (Livonia) and Nathan Adamec (Lancaster). Holley sent a pass to Adamec who in turn sent it right back to Holley who had clear sailing to the net and was able to put in the top half of the net. Ryan Johnson (Sodus) took advantage of two penalty kick opportunities in the 68th and 71st minute to add to the lead (Johnson now has three tallies on the season). Noah Holmok (Alfred Almond) capped the scoring in the 74th minute netting his first of the season after getting a pass from Ade Adesanya (Brooklyn/Progress).

The blue & gold held a 27 to 5 shot advantage in the contest. Vinny Biancuzzo (Genesee Valley) earned the win with three saves in the first 73:52 of the contest. Samuel Sharpless made 12 saves for the Lions.

The Pioneers have a long break before returning to action on October 4th when they travel to St. John Fisher.
