Pioneers Fly Past Hawks

After behind early, the Alfred State men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals as they downed Hilbert 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Garrett Rehner scored 8:55 into the contest when he capitalized on a free kick opportunity right outside of the box. Noah Holmok (Alfred Almond) tied it up in the 23rd minute when he found the back of the net after getting a pass from Christian Jankuloski (Webster Schroeder). The Hawks held a 12 to 11 shot advantage in the 1st half.

5:17 into the 2nd half, Chris Balys (Holley) scored his first goal of the season to give the blue & gold the lead for good. He scored after getting a feed from Bryan Whitbeck (Arkon). Zachary Curran (Williamson) added an insurance goal in the 78th minute when his header found the back of the net after a corner kick by Ryan Johnson (Sodus).

The Pioneers held a 21 to 19 shot advantage in the game (9 to 6 shots on goal). Zack Barker (Steubenville, OH) made five saves in net to record his first victory as a Pioneer.

The Pioneers close out the 2017 campaign on Saturday when they travel to Geneva (PA) for a 5 p.m. contest.
