Pioneers try to gain possession

Hoffmann Scores as Pioneers Battle Gators

Three different Pine Manor players scored as they defeated Alfred State 3-1 in the Pioneers first home game in four weeks. Justus Hoffmann (Hamburg) scored the lone goal for the blue & gold.

Andreee Hernandez started the scoring when he netted a goal in the 16th minute. Ahkeem Thompson made it 2-0 heading into the half when he lifted a free kick to the top right corner of the net.

Ten minutes into the 2nd half, George Fernandez added an insurance goal when he flicked in a goal after a nice set up play by Hernandez. Thompson was also credited with an assist on the play.

Hoffmann got the Pioneers on the board in the 89th minute when he worked off the body of a defender, turned, and delivered a shot top shelf past the goalie.

Alfred State was outshot 15 to 10 in the game but held a 8 to 3 shot advantage in the 2nd half. Angel Pena made two saves to earn the win while Zack Barker (Steubenville, OH) made three saves for the Pioneers.

Alfred State continues their three match homestand on Wednesday when they host St. John Fisher. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
