Pioneers celebrate game tying goal by Ryan Johnson

Pioneers Rally to Tie Cardinals

The Alfred State men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie in a physical battle with St. John Fisher on Wednesday evening.

Matthew Kaiser gave the Cardinals the lead in the 26th minute when he headed in a corner kick from Glenn Roschetzky. Just under nine minutes later Roschetzky made it 2-0 when he was the recipient of a long cross pass from Brennan Brown. He was able to flick a shot past the Pioneer keeper.

Justus Hoffmann (Hamburg) cut the lead in half 1:51 later when he beat the keeper for his third goal in the last four games after getting a long set-up pass from Albert Senyah (Long Island/Central Islip).

The game remained 2-1 until the final ten minutes of the game. With the Pioneers playing with only 10 players, Ryan Johnson (Sodus) sent a missle of a shot from outside the box that the deflected off the keepers hands and into the back of the net to tie it up with 6:58 remaining.

The Pioneers continued to put pressure on but were unable to break the tie. Fisher had the lone shot in the 1st OT while both teams recorded a pair of shots in the 2nd extra session.

Both Alfred State and St. John Fisher finished with 13 shots in the game (eight on goal). Nico Coria (Honeoye Falls Lima) made five saves for the Pioneers while Justin Miles and Joe Catalfamo both made three for the Cardinals.

The Pioneers are home again on Saturday when they host SUNY ESF at 6 p.m. The contest is part of a full day of activity as the college celebrates Homecoming 2018.
