Pioneers Double Up Panthers

The Alfred State men's soccer team earned a hard fought 4-2 victory over Pitt Bradford under the cool crisp sky at Pioneer Stadium.

Chase Rider started the scoring after getting a pass for JT Magro 19:59 into the game to give the Panthers the lead. The lead was short lived as the Pioneers raced back and Justus Hoffmann (Hamburg) scored after getting set up by Zack Linderman (Olean) seconds later.

Chris Balys (Holley) gave the Pioneers their first lead in the 35th minute when he scored after getting a corner kick from Linderman. Rider answered right back seconds later with his second of the game after getting a pass from Alex Lincoln.

Hoffmann netted what would turn out to be the game winning goal four minutes later when he headed in a corner kick from Linderman. Linderman netted his own goal just under two minutes later when he sent a long shot into the back of the net.

Both teams could not capitalize on their chances the rest of the way. Alfred State finished the game with a 21 to 8 shot advantage. Nico Coria (Honeoye Falls Lima) earned his fourth win of the season in net for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers close out the 2018 campaign on Thursday when they host Hilbert at 7 p.m. Prior to the game the team will honor the senior class.
