The Alfred State Men's Soccer team won a closely fought match 3-1. An early goal by Gavin Rice (Greece, N.Y. / Greece Athena) in the 18 minute gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Not much later, Nuri Sarbudak (Pittsford, N.Y. / Pittsford Mendon) put in his team and conference-high 8 goal of the season in the 25 minute.
The game went into halftime 2-1. The first 20 minutes saw five SUNY Canton shots, none of them found the net as Thaddeus Grierson (Perry, N.Y. / Perry Central) and the Pioneer defense put together a shutout second half.
A goal by Jackson Powers (Syracuse, N.Y. / Westhill ) in the 80 minute sealed the 3-1 victory for Alfred State.
The Pioneers are 3-0-1 in their last four matches. They travel to Pitt.- Greensburg for a 1 p.m. match, that is tabbed the AMCC Game of the Week.
