Walker Sets New School Record as Pioneers Open Season

Matt Walker (Kenmore West) set a new school record in the 1,000 free as the Alfred State swimming and diving team opened up the 2019-20 season. The Pioneers fell to defending AMCC Champion Penn State Behrend 162-117.

Walker swam the 1,000 free in 10:42.19 to earn 3rd place and to set a new standard for the event during the NCAA Division III era. Walker also won the 400 IM (4:33.25) was also 2nd in the 500 free (5:08.81).

Austin Miller (Hornell) won both the 1m and 3m diving competitions. He scored 188.70 on the 1m board and 195.40 on the 3m.

Westin Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) won the 100 back in 58.04. Perry was also 2nd in the 50 free (24.14) and the 200 back (2:08.37). Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) was 2nd in the 200 fly (2:13.50), the 200 free (2:29.54), and the 400 IM (4:42.84). 

The 200 free relay team of Alexander Semchenko (Fulton), Aaron Priel (Pioneer), Stuart Yates (Naples), and Austin Eckrich (Churchville Chili) earned 1st place points (1:39.77) while the 200 medley relay team of Perry, Dale, Nate Miller (Gananda), and Walker finished 2nd in 1:44.13.

The Pioneers are next in action on November 2nd when they travel to Buffalo State to swim vs. the Bengals and Fredonia. The tri-meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
