Wadsworth Named USTFCCCA All-American

Jacob Wadsworth (Dansville) has been named to the 2020 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Indoor Track & Field All-American team. Wadworth becomes the first Alfred State student-athlete to earn All-American honors during the NCAA era of Pioneer Athletics.

Wadsworth qualified for the 2020 NCAA Divison III Indoor Nationals in the heptathlon and was ranked 10th heading into the event. He had registered a season best and a new school record of 4,951 points in the event en route to winning the event at the AARTFC Championships the weekend prior.  The event was cancelled the day before the competition was to begin because of the growing health concerns of COVID-19.

In lieu of conduction of the national championship this season, the USTFCCCA Executive Committee adopted the following All-American criteria:

  • Based on the selected participants for the national championships initially announced by the NCAA on Sunday, March 8, the following will be recognized as All-America for the 2020 Indoor Track & Field season:
    • Individual events: ALL student-athletes declared and initially accepted into their event.
    • Relay events: Members of ALL relays who produced the performance that was declared and initially accepted into their event.

A total of 675 athletes from 161 different institutions were honored on Tuesday.

Earlier this year, Wadsworth was named to the USTFCCA All-Mideast Region team in three events (heptathlon, long jump, and the 200). He was also recently just named a member of the 2019-20 Alfred State Athlete of the Year team.
