Lady Pioneers Return to Win Column with Split

The Alfred State softball team snapped an eight game losing streak with a 10-2 victory in game one of their doubleheader with Genesee CC on Saturday.  The Lady Cougars salvaged the split by rallying twice to win the nightcap, 9-8.

In the opener, Alfred scored early and often to build a 10-0 lead.  Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI while Kristen Potter (Harrison Valley, PA/Northern Potter) drove home three runs.  Kara Anderson (Ontario/Wayne) added two doubles in three at bats.

Clarissa Swain (Dansville) earned the win with five innings of work.  She allowed five hits and two earned runs to notch her 4th victory of the season.

In the nightcap, Alfred jumped out to a 6-0 lead only to see GCC score two in the 5th and four in the 6th to tie the game up.  The Lady Pioneers jumped back into the lead with two in the 6th but the Lady Cougars answered right back with three more runs to take the lead.  The Pioneers had the tying runner on 2nd when the games final out was recorded.

Potter continued her solid day at the plate with a 3 for 4, 4 RBI performance while Brooke Gustin (Wellsville) was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI.  Katie Jackson (Troy, PA/Troy) was 2 for 4 with three stolen bases.

The Lady Pioneers (5-25) wrap up their busy week on Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader with SUNY Delhi.
