Lady Pioneers Fall in Season Openers in Florida

The Alfred State softball team could not get the offense going as they were defeated in their 2014 season openers in Ft. Myers, FL.  The Lady Pioneers fell 8-0 to University of New England and 6-0 to Wisconsin-Superior.

UNE scored three runs in the 2nd and three more in the 3rd to take control of the opener.  The Nor'easters took advantage of four Lady Pioneers and four errors.  

Alfred State was held to just three hits with Stormi Krueger (Medina) was 1 for 2 with a double.

Versus Wisconsin-Superior, Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) allowed just one earned run but took the loss on the mound.  The Yellowjackets scored three runs in the 4th to open up a 5-0 lead.

Sarah Hendrickson held the Lady Pioneers to just four singles and struck out 10 batters.

The blue & gold return to action on Sunday when they take on Wooster (OH) at 9 a.m. and Rutgers-Newark at 11 a.m.
