Softball Day 2 Spring Trip Recap

The Alfred State softball team fell 15-0 to Wooster (OH) and 3-2 to Rutgers Newark on day two of their spring trip to the Gene Cusic Classic.

Wooster took advatage of seven Lady Pioneer errors that led to big innings.  The Fighting Scots scored seven in the 2nd, three in the 3rd, and five in the 4th.  Kate Edgehouse held Alfred State to just two hits including a triple by Claire Hartman (Alden).

In the nightcap, the Lady Pioneers fell behind 3-0 to Rutgers Newark after three innings but fought back and had the tying run on third when the final out of the game as recorded.

Lynn Wood (Westfield) connected on a RBI single in the 5th and then Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone) and Allison Vargeson (Addison) executed a double steal to make it 3-2 in the 5th. Kristen Jackson (Keshequa) hit a two out triple in the top of the 7th but Jess Cannon induced a line out to centerfield to end the game.

O'Keefe finished 2 for 3 to lead the Pioneer offense.  Ashlynn Nickerson (Friendship) tossed six innings allowing four hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out three.

Tiara Santi led Rutgers-Newark with a 2 for 3 day while Jess Cannon tossed a complete game seven hitter with six strikeouts.

The Lady Pioneers return to action tomorrow with contests vs. St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin Platteville at 11 a.m.
