Lady Pioneers Split DH on Final Day in Florida

The Alfred State softball team split a pair of contests as they wrapped up their trip to the Gene Gusic Classic in Ft. Myers, FL.  The Lady Pioneers defeated Clarkson 12-6 but fell 9-1 to Wisconsin Superior.

Versus Clarkson, the Lady Pioneers collected 18 hits.  Alfred trailed 6-3 heading into the bottom of the 3rd but scored five in the 3rd and four in the 5th to take control of the contest.  Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone) keyed both innings with bases clearing 3 RBI doubles.

O'Keefe led the offense with a 3 for 4, 6 RBI day while Claire Hartman (Alden) was 4 for 4 with three runs scored.  Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) and Amanda Rockefeller (Bolivar Richburg) were both 2 for 2.

Ashlynn Nickerson (Friendship) came out of the pen to earn the victory on the mound.  She allowed just two hits in four innings of work while striking out seven.

In the nightcap, Wisconsin Superior scored three in the 3rd and six in the 4th to take full control of the game.  The Lady Pioneers collected just three hits and Rockefeller drove in the lone run.

Alfred State (3-9) return to action next Saturday when they host begin a four-game series vs. Clarkson.  First pitch of the DH slated for Saturday (3/29) is at 1 p.m.
