Lady Pioneers Split with Clarkson

The Alfred State softball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday with Clarkson.  The Lady Pioneers won the nightcap 11-4 after falling 8-6 in the opener.

In the nightcap, the Lady Pioneers scored four runs in the 4th and six more in the 6th to take full control of the contest.  Alfred State collected 10 hits and took advantage of five Knight errors.

Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) led the team with a 3 for 3, 1 RBI day.  Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone) was 2 for 3 with a RBI, Annie Corrao (Grand Island) was 2 for 3, and Stormi Kruger (Medina) drove in three runs.

Ashlynn Nickerson (Friendship) earned her 7th win of the season with a strong performance on the hill. She allowed eight hits, three earned runs, and one walk while striking out five.

Alfred State could not rally all the way back in the opener.  Clarkson led 8-2 in the 6th inning but the Lady Pioneers scored four to claw back in the game and had the tying run on base but could not get any closer.

Renee Stanford (Canisteo Greenwood) was 2 for 3 for the Lady Pioneers while Kruger was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.  Claire Hartman (Alden) drove in two runs.

The Lady Pioneers (9-13) return to action on Thursday when they travel to Erie CC for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
