The Alfred State softball team had an offensive explosion in a doubleheader sweep at Erie CC on Thursday. The Lady Pioneers (11-13) collected 25 hits and won the opener 21-0 and then completed the sweep with a 9-2 victory.
The Lady Pioneers scored 12 runs in the 1st inning to take control of the opener. Stormi Kruger (Medina) was 4 for 4 with 4 RBI to pace the 25 hit attack. Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA) was 3 for 4 with a RBI and Kristen Jackson (Keshequa) was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI including the team's first homer of the season.
Ashlynn Nickerson (Friendship) recoreded her 8th win on the mound with a five inning two-hitter.
Kruger continued her big offensive day in the nightcap. She finished 4 for 4 with 3 RBI to finish the day 8 for 8 with 7 RBI. Rachel Slentz (Edmeston) was 2 for 3 with a RBI, Coryn Jepson (William Floyd) was 2 for 2, and Claire Hartman (Alden) was 3 for 5 with a RBI.
Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) earned the victory in the circle to improve to 3-7 on the year.
The blue & gold head to SUNY Canton this weekend for a four game set with the Kangaroos. First pitch of the series is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Alfred took three out of four in an earlier series in Alfred.
