Barber Has Big Day at the Plate

Melissa Barber (Nassau/Catholic Central) collected four hits and five RBI on Wednesday as Alfred State continued their spring break trip in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Lady Pioneers fell 18-6 to Wisconsin -Stout and 9-1 to the College of Mt. St. Vincent.

Stout scored two in the 2nd only to have Barber tie the game in the bottom of the 3rd with a two-RBI double. The Blue Devils plated four in the 4th but Barber cut into the lead with a bases clearing 3-RBI double in the bottom half of the inning. Barber then scored on a RBI single by Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA) to tie it up once again at 6-6.

From that point on, the Blue Devils scored 12 unanswered runs, seven in the 5th and five in the 6th, to earn their fourth win of the season.

Barber finished 3 for 4 with 5 RBI while Zoe Derr (Elmira/Thomas Edison) and Annie Corrao (Grand Island) were each 2 for 3.

In the nightcap, the Dolphins scored six in the 1st inning and never looked back. Mosier was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 2. Stormi Kruger (Medina) knocked in the lone run in the game with a RBI groundout in the 1st.

Barber finished the day 4 for 7 with 5 RBI and raised her season batting average to .400 (8 for 20) on the year.

The blue & gold wrap up their schedule at Fastpitch Dreams Classic on Thursday with a 9:30 a.m. contest vs. Keystone and a 1:30 p.m. game with St. Joseph's (CT).
