Big Innings Hurt Pioneers

The Alfred State softball team was slowed down by the big inning on Sunday afternoon as they continued play at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Pioneers fell 11-0 to Sarah Lawrence and 8-0 to Albertus Magnus.

In the opener, Sarah Lawrence used a pair of big innings in the 11-0 victory. The Gryphons scored six runs in the 2nd and five in the 4th. The Pioneers were held to just two singles one by Zoe Derr (Elmira Heights/Thomas Edison) and Ashley Peterson (Valley Central) by the combination of Mikayla Cunningham and Delaney Parker.

Verus Albertus Magnus, the Falcons used a five run 4th inning to take control of the game. The Pioneers trailed 3-0 heading into the 4th when AMC collected five runs on three hits. The blue & gold collected five singles, Derr, Morgan Franklin (Wellsville), Kylie DeWilde (Midlakes), Jordan Leonard (Lancaster), and Shae Green (Hornell), in the contest but stranded five runners on base.

The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow when they play Franciscan (OH) at 9:30 a.m. and St. Scholastica (MN) at 11:30 a.m.
