The Alfred State softball team continued play at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Pioneers fell in both halves of the split doubleheader, 14-1 to Bay Path and 12-0 to Franciscan.
In the opener vs. Bay Path, the Pioneers trailed 2-0 heading into the 3rd when they cut the lead in half with a Zoe Derr (Elmira Heights/Thomas Edison) sac fly. The Wildcats answered back in their half of the 3rd with seven runs and added five more in the 4th.
Morgan Franlin (Wellsville) was 1 for 2 with a double while Lauren Vallee was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI to lead Pay Bath.
Fraciscan collected 11 runs in the 1st inning to take control of the nightcap. The Pioneers were held to just two hits, a double by Zerr and a single by Betsy Butlak (Angola/Lake Shore). Allyson Weiss was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and RBI for the Barons.
The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow when they take on Pikeville at 9:30 a.m. and Lycoming at 11:30 a.m.
