Softball Team Returns to Action

The Alfred State softball team returned to action after a 16-day break and played their first games up North. Pitt Bradford earned a 16-2 win the opener and a 9-1 victory in the nightcap.

The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning before the Pioneers battled back into the game with a pair of runs in the 3rd. Zoe Derr (Elmira Heights/Thomas Edison) drove a double to center to score Morgan Franklin (Wellsville) and Jamie Parente (Mount Sinai). Franklin and Parente had each singled to start the inning. UPB made it 4-2 in the 3rd with a single run and put the game out of reach with a 12-run 4th inning.

Madison East led the Panthers in game one with a 3 for 3, 3 RBI day Lindsey Hull was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI. 

In the nightcap, the Panthers (8-8) scored in every inning as they collected 11 hits. UPB scored one in the 1st, three in the 2nd, two in the 3rd, and three in the 4th. East led the team with a 2 for 2, 3 RBI day while Grace Dadzaa was 2 for 3 with a RBI. Natalie Harding also collected two hits finishing 2 for 3.

The Pioneers scored their lone run of the game when Xavia Miller (Dundee) scored on a fielding error. Parente was 2 for 3 to lead the Pioneers.

The Pioneers are slated to open the home portion of their schedule on Friday when they host Hilbert. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 3 p.m.
