Pioneers Collect Eight Hits in Nightcap

The Alfred State softball team collected eight hits in the nightcap of their doubleheader at Keuka on Tuesday but were unable to plate runs as the Wolves completed the sweep. Keuka earned 11-1 and 8-0 victories.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers collected eight singles but stranded nine runners in the contest. The Wolves on the other hand were able to score four in the 1st and scored a pair of run in the 4th and 6th innings.

Ashley Peterson (Maybrook/Valley Central), Jordan Leonard (Lancaster), and Betsy Butlak (Angola/Lake Shore) were all 2 for 3 for the Pioneers.

Janessa Vaadi was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI while Katelyn Warren was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI for the Wolves.

In the opener, the Pioneers collected only one hit while Keuka used a five run 2nd inning and a four run 3rd inning to take control of the game. Shae Green (Hornell) collected the lone hit and scored the only run on a wild pitch.

The blue & gold are slated to be back on the diamond on Thursday when they travel to D'Youville for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the Spartans.
