Zoe Derr and her family as she celebrated Senior Day

Franklin Collects Three Hits at Elmira

Morgan Franklin (Wellsville) was 3 for 5 as Alfred State battled Elmira on the road on Thursday. The Soaring Eagles took both games of the doubleheader, 8-0 and 10-0.

Franklin collected on of the two Pioneer hits in the opener. Elmira scored one in the 1st, two in the 3rd, three in the 4th, and two in the 5th. Emily Clark was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI while Rachel Katzenberger drove in three for the Eagles.

Franklin collected two of the Pioneers five hits in the nightcap. The blue & gold stranded six runners on the base. Elmira scored four in the 1st and five more in the 2nd to take control of the game. Sam Chadbourne was 2 for 2 with a RBI while Clark lifted a homer, her second of the day, and drove in two.

Prior to the game, Alfred State honored senior Zoe Derr (Elmira Heights/Thomas Edison). Derr is the lone senior on the team and the Pioneers had their senior home contest rained out last week.

The Pioneers are in action this weekend when they play a four-game series at SUNY Canton. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
