Franklin Collects Four Hits vs. D'Youville

Morgan Franklin (Wellsville) was 4 for 6 with a pair of walks as Alfred State battled D'Youville in Buffalo on Monday. The Spartans were able to pick up 7-4 and 8-2 victories.

In the opener, Marissa Varela (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) got the Pioners on the board early with a RBI single to right field in the 1st. The Spartans took the lead with a four-run 2nd inning. Morgan Franklin (Wellsville) cut into the lead in the 4th when she singled to right field to plate a pair and make it 4-3. In the bottom of the inning, the Spartans got those two runs back. In the 5th, Jordan Leonard (Lancaster) drove in a run on a fielder's choice but the Pioneers stranded the bases loaded and would not get any closer. D'Youville added an insurance run in the 6th.

Varela was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4 with a RBI while Franklin drove in a pair.

The Spartans scored a pair of runs in the 1st and made it 3-0 with a run in the 4th. Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) cut the lead to 3-2 in the 5th when she hit a two-run single. The Pioneers would not get any closer as D'Youville scored once in the 5th and put the game out of reach with four in the 6th.

Franklin led the eight hit attack with a 3 for 3 day. 

The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow when they host Houghton in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
