Varela and Fisher Honored by the ACAA

Marissa Varela (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) and Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) have earned All-ACAA honors. Varela was named the ACAA Rookie of the Year and was a 1st team selection while Fisher was selected as a 2nd team honoree as both a second basemen and a pitcher.

Varela had a monster freshman season. She finished the year hitting .457 (37 for 81) with eight doubles, four triples, two homers, and drove in a team high 35 runs. She collected at least one hit in 23 of the team's 27 games and had nine multi-hit games on the season. She also had nine multi RBI games including a 6 RBI performance in a victory over Knox in Florida. She was named the ECAC North Player of the Month for March, was honored multiple times by Alfred State and the ACAA with Player of the Week honors, and was named to the All-Tournament team this past weekend at the ACAA Tournament.

Fisher appeared in 18 games (16 starts) and tossed 104.1 innings this season on the mound for the blue & gold. She finished the season with seven victories and a 4.09 ERA. She walked just 11 batters all year while striking out 45. At the plate, she had a .429 on-base percentage and scored 19 runs. She was 17 for 69 on the season and drove in seven runs.

Varela and Fisher were key pieces as the Pioneers finished 2nd at the ACAA Championships and improved their win total by nine games compared to the 2018 season.
