Varela Adds ECAC Honor
The honors continue to roll in for Alfred State freshman outfielder Marissa Varela (Egg Harbor, Twp, NJ). Most recently she was named 1st team All-ECAC.
Varela finished her first year at Alfred State hitting .457 (37 for 81) with eight doubles, four triples, two homers, and drove in a team high 35 runs. She had nine multi-hit games and nine multi-RBI games. Her 35 RBI and .728 slugging percentage are new NCAA Era records while her batting average is second best.
Varela was named ACAA Newcomer of the Year, 1st team All-ACAA, and to the All-ACAA Tournament team. She was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Northeast All-Region 1st team and was named the Alfred State Female Athlete of the Year. During the season she was named ECAC North Player of the Month for March and was named Player of the Week by the ACAA and Alfred State.
