Rob Fair named softball coach

Fair Named New Coach

Director of Athletics Jason Doviak has announced the hiring of Rob Fair as the head coach of the Alfred State softball program.

Doviak is excited to have Fair begin his new role with the program. "Rob has a strong background in softball and his enthusiasm for the sport was evident when he joined our staff as an assistant. His leadership ability and knowledge of the game will be a key to our success this season. He believes strongly in fundamentals and our student-athletes will benefit from his attention to detail. I look forward to working with him as he embarks on his first year as a collegiate head coach."

Fair is pleased to have the opportunity. "Being an assistant coach for the past two years has enabled me to see many of the dynamics of the team and allowed the ability to interact with the players to help in a seamless transition into being their head coach. We have a very young but very capable team. We will play in the AMCC this year which will challenge our players more than years past. I'm excited and proud to be their head coach and cant wait to establish ourselves in the AMCC."

Fair has 30 years of softball coaching experience (women's fastpitch, men's slowpitch and men's fastpitch). He joined the Alfred State coaching staff two years ago as a volunteer assistant coach. He has also been the President and the head coach of the U16 team for the Southern Tier Bandits Organization for the past 10 years. He also has spent time coaching at Hinsdale Central School and Cuba Rushford High School.

With the Southern Tier Bandits he is in charge of the administrative duties and scheduling for all the teams and is in charge of all the coaching duties, including all try outs, practice and game planning, for the U16 team. The program has grown to field U12, U14, U16, U18 teams and trains well over 100 athletes. Over 20 past players of the program have gone on to play at the collegiate level.

Fair played baseball and earned a bachelor degree in Broadcast Communications from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
