Softball Picks Up First Win of Season in Florida

The Alfred State softball team split on Monday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida to move to 1-3 overall.

The Pioneers held Wisconsin-Superior (6-0) to their lowest scoring game this season in their 0-3 loss in game one and came back in game two against SUNY Delhi (2-4) to win 9-4.

Game one:

The Pioneers recorded 0 runs, 1 hit and 2 errors.

Wisconsin-Superior recorded 3 runs, 8 hits, 3 RBIs and 1 error.

Pioneer Leaders:

Felecia Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) went 1-for-3.

Pioneer Pitching:

Abby Beidel (Newville, PA/Big Spring) (0-2) pitched 7 innings and allowed 8 hits, 3 runs and struck out 1. 

Game two:

The Pioneers recorded 9 runs, 13 hits, 9 RBIs and 2 errors.

Delhi recorded 4 runs, 7 hits, 4 RBIs and 0 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Felecia Capito went 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs and 1 run.

Faith Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) went 2-for-4 with 2 runs.

Kailey Wonica (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Beidel went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 2 runs.

Kaylee Griffith (Niagara Falls) went 2-for-4 with 1 run.

Skylar Shaulis (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) went 2-for-4.

How it Happened:

The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead after Griffith scored off a sac fly from Lauryn Engle (Elba).

Delhi scored two in the fourth for a 2-1 advantage.

Faith Capito scored off a double from her twin sister Felecia Capito in the fourth to tie it.

In the fifth, Engle scored off a single from Beidel, Faith Capito scored off a single from Felecia Capito who scored off a single from Wonica.

Delhi scored two more in the seventh.

Pioneer Pitching:

Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN/Southport) (1-1) pitched 7 innings and allowed 7 hits, 4 runs, walked 1 and struck out 4. 

The Pioneers will play Brockport at 9 a.m. and Kenyon at 11 a.m. in Fort Myers on Wednesday.
