Pioneers Swept by Nazareth

The Alfred State softball team lost both games in their doubleheader against the Nazareth Golden Flyers Thursday evening at Flyer Field.

Game one: ASC 2, NC 3

The Pioneers recorded 2 runs, 8 hits, 2 RBIs and 1 error.

Nazareth recorded 3 runs, 7 hits, 3 RBIs and 0 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Nicole Youngberg (Falconer) went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.

Felecia Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) went 2-for-3.

Faith Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) went 2-for-4.

How it Happened:

Youngberg singled to right center to plate Kaylee Griffith (Niagara Falls) for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Golden Flyers scored one in the fourth and two in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh Griffith singled to left field to bring home Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN/Southport).

Pioneer Pitching:

Fisher (L, 2-4) pitched 6 innings and allowed 7 hits, 3 runs and struck out 5. She faced 26 batters, threw 82 pitches and 62 strikes.  

Game two: ASC 2, NC 3

The Pioneers recorded 0 runs, 4 hits and 3 errors.

Nazareth recorded 9 runs, 9 hits, 6 RBIs and 0 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Youngberg, Felecia Capito and Brianna Dittman (Brooklyn/James Madison) went 1-for-2.

How it Happened:

The Golden Flyers scored four runs in the first and five in the third.

Pioneer Pitching:

Abby Beidel (Newville, PA/Big Spring) (L, 1-5) pitched 5 innings and allowed 9 hits, 9 runs and struck out 1. She faced 28 batters and recorded 81 pitches and 47 strikes.

The Pioneers will have their first home games on Saturday, March 25 when they host SUNY Delhi in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
