The Alfred State softball team (4-10, 1-1) split with Penn State Altoona (7-8, 1-1) to open up conference play on Saturday.

Game one: ASC 5, PSA 1

The Pioneers recorded 5 runs, 9 hits, 4 RBIs and 3 errors.

The Lions recorded 1 run, 6 hits, 1 RBI and 0 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Lauryn Engle (Elba) and Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN/Southport) both went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI, 1 run and were walked once.

Kaylee Griffith (Niagara Falls) went 1-for-3 with two runs and was walked once.

How it Happened:

Griffith scored off a ground out in the top of the first.

Penn State Altoona scored their only run in the bottom of the first off a single to right field.

Fisher scored off a wild pitch in the second.

In the fifth Griffith scored off a single from Engle, Kailey Wonica (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) scored off a single from Fisher and Engle scored off a single from Skylar Shaulis (Ovid, NY/South Seneca).
