Boyce Leads Pioneers in Pitt. Greensburg Split

The Alfred State softball team (9-15, 5-5 AMCC) split with the Pitt. Greensburg Bobcats (4-23, 2-8 AMCC) on Saturday evening in Greensburg, Pa.

Game one: ASC 9, PG 7

The Pioneers recorded 9 runs, 9 hits, 8 RBIs and 1 error.

The Bobcats recorded 7 runs, 13 hits, 7 RBIs and 2 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Sarah Boyce (Cortland) went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run.

Felecia Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 1 run.

Kaylee Griffith (Niagara Falls) went 2-for-4 with 2 runs.

How it Happened:

Pitt. Greensburg scored two runs in the bottom of the second.

The Pioneers recorded six runs in the top of the fourth.

Boyce scored off a single from Nicole Youngberg (Falconer), Griffith score off a ground out, Kailey Wonica (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) scored off a single from Felecia Capito, Youngberg scored off a fielders choice, Felecia Capito scored off a single from Skylar Shaulis (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) and Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN/Southport) scored off a single from Boyce.

In the top of the fifth Wonica scored off a single from Felecia Capito.

The Bobcats scored two runs in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh Griffith and Wonica both scored off errors.

Pitt. Greenburg scored three more in the seventh, but the Pioneer defense shut them down.

Pioneer Pitching:

Fisher (W, 6-7) pitched 7 innings and allowed 13 hits, 7 runs, walked 2 and struck out 4.

Game two: ASC 3, PG 4

The Pioneers recorded 3 runs, 5 hits, 3 RBIs and 3 errors.

The Bobcats recorded 4 runs, 8 hits, 4 RBIs and 2 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Boyce went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

How it Happened:

Pitt. Greensburg scored three runs in the bottom of the third and the Pioneers tied the game in the top of the fifth.

Faith Capito scored off a single from Lauryn Engle (Elba) and Engle and Fisher scored off a single from Boyce.

The Bobcats scored the winning run in the sixth.

Pioneer Pitching:

Abby Beidel (Newville, PA/Big Spring) (L, 3-8) pitched 6 innings and allowed 8 hits, 4 runs, walked 3 and struck out 2.

The Pioneers are home Sunday, April 24 to host Pitt.-Bradford in a conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
