Softball Falls to Mount Aloysius in AMCC Tournament

The Alfred State softball team made history by earning a spot in the AMCC championship tournament for the first time in program history and also recorded the most wins in a season in the NCAA era. The last time the Pioneers had double digit wins was in the 2014-15 season. 

The No. 6 seeded Pioneers (10-23) lost 2-1 to the No. 3 seed Mount Aloysius Mounties (19-12) on the first day of the AMCC championship tournament in Erie, Pa.

The game was slated for a 10 a.m. start but after one inning was postponed due to rain and the game resumed at 2:30 p.m.

The Pioneers recorded 1 run, 3 hits, 1 RBI and 0 errors.

The Mounties recorded 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 RBIs and 0 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Lauryn Engle (Elba) recorded 1 hit and 1 RBI.

Nicole Youngberg (Falconer) went 1-for-2 with 1 run.

Kailey Wonica (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) went 1-for-2.

How it Happened:

The Mounties scored two runs off a double in the bottom of the second.

Engle singled to center field to plate Youngberg in the top of the fourth.

Pioneer Pitching:

Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN/Southport) (L, 7-11) pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 hits, 2 runs, walked 1 and struck out 2. She faced 24 batters and threw 80 pitches, 56 were strikes.

The Pioneers will play the loser of Penn. State Behrend and Medaille at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
