Pioneers Drop Doubleheader to Elmira

The Alfred State Pioneers Softball team took two losses against Elmira 9-1 in game 1 and 10-2 in game 2. That brings the Pioneer's record to two wins and ten losses this season.

In Game 1:

In the first inning, the Pioneers were down 3-0 with three runs batted in from Elmira. The Pioneer's Lauryn Engle (Elba) doubled to left field, with Felecia Capito (Cuba, NY) scoring an RBI in the second inning, making the score 3-1. Elmira bounced back, scoring off a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly RBI bringing the score 5-1 after 2 innings. In the fourth and fifth innings, Elmira put four runs across the plate, ending the game in 5 innings.

Nicole Youngberg and Lauryn Engle recorded the only two hits for the Pioneers in game 1. 

In Game 2

The Pioneers struggled in the second game, down 5-0 in the third inning. Elmira pushed 2 runs home in the 2nd and 3 runs in the 3rd innings to extend their lead early. The Pioneer's Audrey Farrell (Linwood) triple to right field, allowing Abby Beidel (Newville, PA) and Lauryn Engle (Elba) to score. Farrell's RBI triple made the score 5-2 in the top of the 5th. Elmira tacked on more runs in the bottom halves of the 5th and 6 innings, ending the game 10-2 after six innings.

Lauryn Engle went 3-3 from the dish in game two.

We will see the Pioneers back in action again facing our next-door neighbors Alfred University on Sunday, March 26th at 2:00 pm.
