Blue Tops Gold in the Pool

On Saturday night at the Orvis Pool, the Alfred State swimming & diving team hosted the 2nd Annual Blue & Gold Alumni Meet.

The Blue team topped the Gold team 109-93 led by junior captain Bryce Cutler who placed 1st in the 1000, 500, and was on the winning 200 Free Relay with Mason Sparks, Myriah Perry, and Nate Ciciera. Chipping in and also picking up individual wins for the Blue team were Kyle Sporysz (50 Free), Dave Whiting (100 Fly), Ciciera (100 Free).

Gold started off by winning the 200 Medley Relay with the team of freshmen Tim Olin, Ethan Dale, Ryan McDowell, and sophomore Alley Sell but were unable to fend off the depth from the Blue team. Olin picked up two victories in the 200 Free and 100 Back but the highlight of the evening were the performances of Dale and Sell.

Sell placed 3rd in the 200 IM with a time of 2:26.19 breaking her own school record in the process. Dale was not to be outdone however as he picked up victories in the 200 IM and 100 Breast, the latter in which the freshman set a new Alfred State NCAA DIII record of 1:06.55 breaking the previous record by almost 2 seconds.

The women's team starts off the dual meet season this Friday as the travel to Steubenville, OH to take on Franciscan. Both the men and women are in action on Saturday when they host Penn State Altoona at 1 p.m.
