The Alfred State women's swimming team earned a 114-113 victory at Franciscan University on Friday afternoon. The Lady Pioneers had several NCAA DIII school record breaking performances in their season opener.

Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) had an impressive collegiate debut on the diving board. She won the five dive competition with a score of 169.8 and the six dive with a score of 224.9 for a total of 394.72.

Kaileigh Lehman (Lowville) won two individual events. She won the 50 free (27.60) and the 100 free (1:01.33) Alley Sell (Hanover, PA) won the 100 breast (1:14.68) and set a new school record in the 200 free (2:04). Elizabeth Drake (Lansing) won the 1,000 free and set a new school record (12:51).

The 200 free relay team of Lehman, Drake, Myriah Perry (Canisteo Greenwood), and Sell set a new Alfred State record and won in 1:53.07.

Coach RC Weston on the meet:  "The women's team left everything in the pool tonight. They fought hard and found themselves in a position to secure a victory down the stretch. Diving was the game changer for us. We will have to wait and see what the qualifying scores are for the ECAC Open Championships, but I'm confident that in her first collegiate meet, Becca Stevens earned a spot in the end of the season competition. Just an amazing performance all around and I'm looking forward to witnessing even more improvements throughout the course of the season!
The full Alfred State team is in action tomorrow (10/22) when they host Penn State Altoona. The first event is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
